The EL Paso Police Department has released the name of the pedestrian who died in a fatal car accident on South Kansas Street, last Monday.

Authorities identified the victim as 72-year-old Javier Garcia.

In an unspecified time in the morning, DPS troopers received a call reporting a collision at the 500 block of South Kansas Street. According to the report, Garcia was attempting to cross the intersection when he was struck by a black SUV Suburban that was attempting to make a turn to Kansas. The impact of the crash seriously injured Garcia in the process. He was transported to University Medical Center where he later died.

The driver of the SUV was identified as 26-year-old Steven Uribe. Based on the preliminary investigation, Uribe failed to yield the right of way to Garcia. Whether or not he will be charged is yet to be determined by local investigators.
