Newton County – Sherry Thompson and Samuel Menefee Hospitalized in Highway 62 Crash

Local officials have identified the victims who were injured in a two-car crash on Texas Highway 62 last Friday.

According to a local news source, a vehicle accident took place on Hwy 62 near mile marker 434 at around 8:30 p.m. A 2007 Mitsubishi SUV was heading north on the highway when it collided with a southbound 2001 Acura car. Police said the SUV was attempting to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone when it crashed head-on with Acura.

Both drivers of the vehicle suffered various injuries and were transported to St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. No details have been released on the condition of the two drivers.

The driver of the Acura was identified as Samuel Menefee, 47, of Buna while the driver of the Mitsubishi was named Sherry Thompson, 61, of Buna.

An investigation is ongoing.
