Polk County – Victim of Single-Car Accident on US 59 ID’d

The Department of Public Safety has named the Houstan man who died after he had a medical emegerncy while driving through US 59, south of Diboll, Tuesday.

Just before 3:00 p.m., DPS officials responded to an auto crash on US Highway 59 in Polk County which involved a 2018 Chevrolet pickup truck. According to the report, the pickup truck was heading south when it went out of control and veered off the roadway. It then struck a guardrail and overturned a number of times. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was later identified as 63-year-old Stevenson McClendon by Polk County justice of the peace.

Based on an initial investigation, McClendon experienced a medical emergency causing him to lose control of his car. Police also found about 165 pounds of what they believe to be marijuana.
