According to a local news source, the fatalities were identified as Servilio L. Placeres Gonzalez, a 49-year-old resident of Houston, and Luis A. Sanchez, a 72-year-old resident of Sugarland.

At around 1:30 a.m., Gonzalez was seen driving a 2009 Volvo truck tractor along the westbound lane of Interstate 10 when, for reasons that had not been determined, it crashed into a 1997 Peterbilt truck that was towing a semi-trailer. Both trucks caught fire after the impact.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found both drivers lifeless. They were pronounced deceased by responding officers.

Area investigators were requested at the scene to determine the circumstances leading up to the accident.
